Rugged Kevlar drop protection without the brick-like bulk—is the Pro version the ultimate case for your Galaxy Z Fold 8?
After recently putting both the Benks ArmorGrid Air and the Crystal Clear cases through their paces on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, I couldn’t resist getting my hands on the ArmorGrid Pro in Obsidian Black to see how it stacked up. My previous daily driver was the Beyond Blue Armorgrid Air case, and while Obsidian Black has a stealthier, understated look, it is just as stunning in person.
Going in, my main worry was that the Pro’s reinforced drop protection would turn an already substantial foldable into an unmanageable brick. To my pleasant surprise, it still manages to feel impressively slim in everyday use. The hybrid Kevlar and shock-absorbing TPU bumper provides a reassuring, tactile grip that feels locked into your palm and remarkably stable in the hand. It gives you true heavy-duty peace of mind, slides smoothly in and out of pockets without catching, and pairing it with the magnetic ArmorPop makes one-handed handling for extended sessions virtually effortless.

Unboxing & First Impressions
The ArmorGrid Pro Grand Combo arrives in Benks’ signature multi-tier packaging. Inside the box, everything is compartmentalized into three distinct elements: the reinforced Kevlar and TPU rear case, the matching front protective frame, and the GlassWarrior HD Screen Protector kit.

Installing the GlassWarrior HD cover screen protector is as straightforward as it gets. Benks bundles a full installation toolkit—wet and dry cleaning wipes, a full-coverage screen dust sticker, and an alignment frame. Using the tray resulted in a clean, dead-center install on the first try, retaining crisp display clarity and edge-to-edge touch sensitivity with zero bubbling.

Both the front frame and the rear armor snap firmly onto the Fold 8. Unlike the air version, as this is a more robust case – no adhesive strips are required along the internal rim of the frame and back which is a pleasant addition. Especially if you are like me and frequently switch between cases.

Where the Pro really stands out from other rugged foldable cases is the dynamic hinge cover. Foldable hinge shields are often huge, rigid protrusions that ruin ergonomics. The Pro’s shock-absorbing hinge protector glides smoothly over the spine of the phone as you fold and unfold the device, keeping dust and pocket lint away from the hinge mechanism while preserving a flush profile when held open.

Key Features
The ArmorGrid Pro case boasts:
- All-in-One Grand Combo Protection: Complete 360-degree defense including the reinforced rear case, protective front frame, and GlassWarrior HD tempered glass.
- Kevlar & TPU In-Mold Fusion: Officially licensed DuPont™ Kevlar® weave bonded to a high-impact TPU bumper for enhanced corner and drop protection.
- Smooth Dynamic Hinge Shield: Impact-absorbing magnetic guard shields the fragile hinge when closed and glides out of the way when unfolded.
- Integrated 10N MagSafe Array: Strong internal magnets designed for MagSafe chargers, car mounts, and magnetic phone grips.
- Enhanced Tactile Grip: Textured shock-absorbing edges combined with the matte fiber back ensure a confident, slip-free hold.

Pros and Cons of the Benks ArmorGrid Air Case
- Rugged Yet Pocket-Friendly: Delivers multi-drop shock absorption while staying remarkably slim (~44g total) compared to typical bulky rugged cases.
- Superior Hand Grip: The combination of a textured TPU frame and woven Kevlar back feels far more secure in the hand than bare metal and glass.
- Smooth Hinge Defense: Shields the most vulnerable point of the Fold 8 without awkward bulk or catching when opened flat.
- Zero Desk Wobble: When combined with the ArmorPop accessory, the Fold 8 sits flat on desks and tables.
- Heavier than the Air Version: At ~44 grams total, it adds slightly more weight than the featherlight ArmorGrid Air (~33g).
- Higher Investment: Premium pricing compared to generic TPU covers, though balanced by the inclusion of the 3-in-1 installation bundle.

Must-Have Accessory: ArmorPop Phone Grip & Stand
Alongside the Pro case, I tested out the Benks ArmorPop Phone Grip & Stand. It attaches straight to the Pro’s integrated MagSafe ring with a solid, reassuring snap.

Why the ArmorPop is a Game-Changer:
- Secure Ergonomics: Folding phones are heavy, and the ArmorPop makes extended one-handed browsing or reading significantly more comfortable without finger fatigue.
- Eliminates Table Wobble: The Fold 8’s raised camera island causes annoying wobble when placed on flat tables. The ArmorPop matches the exact depth of the camera module, allowing the phone to rest flat on any desk.
- 360-Degree Rotation: Rotates effortlessly to prop the Fold 8 in both portrait mode for video calls and landscape mode for media consumption.
Final Thoughts
If you found the ArmorGrid Air tempting but wanted extra drop peace of mind, the Benks ArmorGrid Pro Grand Combo hits that elusive balance. It gives the Galaxy Z Fold 8 serious corner impact protection and tactile grip without ballooning the phone’s dimensions or weighing down your pockets. It is definitely a premium investment, but considering the replacement cost of a foldable screen, it offers stylish, top-tier insurance for your device.
